Elisha Clark Ware (1846-1909) and his wife Minnie A. Ware came to the Belvedere Club in 1883 for the summer. They sought relief successfully for her hay fever. In 1885 they purchased the cottage No. 45 on the site of Jane Payne’s present cottage.

In 1905 they sold the cottage and bought rights to the cottage on the No. 62 lot. It is now the current Robert Ware cottage at 212 Belvedere. They abandoned the first terrace to get rid of the coal smoke and dust and the noise of the nightly trains. (Source: Gordon Ware)

The Belvedere  Club Book #2.) Elisha is considered to be the Club’s initial sailer. Accordingly, this picture of Elisha on the original Belvedere docks has long adorned the Club’s Yacht Club.
